The role of the cancer Biobank (or the biology resource centre (BRC)) is to collect biological specimens for pathology-based diagnosis and for research protocols. Their provision and analysis is a necessary step to enable patients to benefit from the applications of molecular and genetic cancer research.
-A multisite context
The Cancer Biobank – Biological Resource Centre (BRC) Sorbonne University is registered with the Ministry of Research (N° DC-2009-965) and labeled by INCa and DHOS since 2002 (TUMO0616). Its vocation is the collection, management, preparation, conservation, and provision of human biological resources (BR) with clinical associated data. The BRC guarantees the quality and traceability of these BR and their compliance with appopriated regulations (as described in the Quality Policy Statement), The biobank regularly participate in traceability testing. The structure obtain certification in November 2014 according to the NF S 96 900 standard, it’s valid for a period up to 3 years. Surveillance assessments are set once a year with an internal audit. Renewal is achieved by the AFNOR (Association Française de Normalisation) that is the French national organization for standardization.
The freezers are spread over three sites ; each one with a cancer research specialty: •Saint-Antoine, department of Prof. Fléjou Jean François (digestive system); • Tenon, department of Prof. Compérat Eva Maria (breast, lung, urology, nephrology..) and •Armand-Trousseau, department of Prof. Coulomb L’Hermine Aurore (paediatrics). The multisite is managed by a team of medicals, health executive, technicians and biology engineer.
